Want to import a Holden yourself?

Importing Australian Vehicles into the USA
Importing a vehicle from Australia can seem complicated, but you do not have to manage it from the other side of the world by yourself.
At AusParts International, we provide a personalised Australian Vehicle Brokerage & Export Service for American enthusiasts searching for unique Australian vehicles.
We are your connection inย Australia.
We can help you find a vehicle, inspect it in person, speak with the seller, negotiate the purchase, facilitate secure payment and arrange collection anywhere in Australia. Once the vehicle has been purchased, we can coordinate its export in-house or utilize one of our trusted third-party export partners, deliver it to an exporter of your choice or leave you free to organise the export yourself.
We provide you with flexible options so you can decide how much (or how little) you need us to handle.
From iconic Holdens and HSVs to Australian-market Fords, Chryslers, 4x4s and sought-after JDM vehicles found within Australiaโs unique enthusiast market, we help make ownership of these difficult-to-find vehicles possible.
Why Buy a Vehicle From Australia?
Australian vehicles offer a distinctive combination of American-inspired V8 performance, European-influenced design and unique Australian engineering.
Whether it is the muscle and everyday practicality of a Holden Ute, the raw performance of a HSV, the rugged capability of an Aussie 4x4 or a collectible Japanese import that has spent its life in Australia, these vehicles offer character, versatility and performance that can be difficult to find anywhere else in the world.
Australia is also an excellent market to find clean, well-preserved vehicles. Much of the country enjoys a warm, dry climate without the snow, ice and heavily salted winter roads experienced across many parts of the United States. As a result, rust-free and exceptionally well-kept vehicles can be found throughout Australia, even among models that are now several decades old.
Australian states also maintain roadworthiness and vehicle-safety requirements. Depending on the state, vehicles may require a roadworthy or safety inspection when they are sold, transferred or re-registered. These inspections help identify safety-related defects, structural concerns and mechanical issues that must be addressed before a roadworthy certificate can be issued.
Combined with Australiaโs strong enthusiast scene, these conditions have helped preserve an impressive selection of clean, original and carefully maintained vehicles.
For American buyers, that means the opportunity to own more than just a rare Australian model. It means finding a vehicle with a strong body, a well-preserved chassis and the potential to remain enjoyable for many years to come.
We are your Boots on the Ground in Australia
Buying a vehicle from the other side of the world can feel like a gamble. You may be dealing with a private seller you have never met, relying on photos that do not tell the full story and trying to arrange inspections, payment, collection and international shipping from thousands of miles away.
That is where we come in.
AusParts International is your trusted representative here in Australia. We can inspect the vehicle in person, speak directly with the seller, negotiate the purchase, make secure payment, collect the vehicle and coordinate its journey to the United States.
You are not left trying to manage the process through messages and phone calls from overseas. We are here on the ground, handling it for you.
Whether you have already found the perfect car or need help tracking one down, we can tailor our service to suit exactly what you need.
Found a Vehicle? Weโll Go and Check It Out For You
Online listings rarely tell the full story. Photos can hide damage, descriptions can leave out important details and sellers do not always know (or disclose) the complete history of a vehicle.
Before you commit to purchasing, we can personally inspect the vehicle on your behalf.
Our inspection service includes:
- A thorough in-person assessment of the vehicle
- Detailed photographs and high-quality videos
- A live video call while we walk around the vehicle
- Confirmation of the vehicleโs identity and advertised specifications
- A government PPSR vehicle-history report
- An honest assessment from Australian car enthusiasts who understand these vehicles
- Practical advice about whether we believe the vehicle is worth pursuing
We show you what we see, the good, the bad and the ugly. So you can make an informed decision.
Our inspections are also available as an independent service. You are welcome to use us solely to inspect a vehicle, with no obligation to purchase or import it through AusParts International afterward.
We Negotiate With The Seller for you
Dealing with an Australian seller while in the United States can be difficult, particularly when time zones, unfamiliar terminology and private-sale negotiations are involved.
Instead, We communicate directly with the seller on your behalf, ask the important questions, clarify the vehicleโs condition and negotiate the purchase price to get you the best deal.
Because we understand the Australian market and know what to look for in Holden and other Australian vehicles, we can help identify potential concerns before you commit. You tell us what you want, what you are willing to spend and any conditions you would like included and we handle the conversation from there.
Secure Purchasing and Scam Prevention
Sending thousands of dollars to an unknown private seller overseas carries obvious risks. Our local presence provides an additional layer of protection.
When purchasing a private vehicle through us, we can meet the seller, verify the vehicle and arrange simultaneous payment and collection in person. This means we can easily confirm that the seller and vehicle are genuine before the transaction is completed.
If we find anything is off, suspicious behaviour or something that makes the transaction unsafe, we will halt the purchase and return your funds rather than proceeding with a questionable sale.
Buying through AusParts International means dealing with a legitemate pre-established Australian business instead of transferring money directly to a stranger on the other side of the world.
Once your vehicle has been purchased, you can choose how to proceed. We can manage the complete import process or transport the vehicle to your preffered importer. Any standalone transport or purchasing-service fees will be quoted according to your requirements.
Private Sales, Dealerships and Australian Auctions
Your search is not limited to just vehicles advertised by private sellers.
We can assist with vehicles offered through:
- Facebook Marketplace and other online classifieds
-
Australian dealerships
- Vehicle wholesalers
- Australian auction houses
We can even bid at auction on your behalf. This gives you access to a much broader range of Australian vehicles, including rare models and opportunities that may never appear through traditional dealerships and classifieds.
Already found a vehicle? Send us the listing and we can take it from there.
Still looking? Tell us the model, specification, colour, transmission, budget and condition you are after, and we can help you search.
Collection and Transport Anywhere in Australia
Our services aren't just limited to our home state. We will travel Australia wide to bring your pride and joy home.ย
So whether your vehicle is located nearby or interstate, we can coordinate suitable transport to our facility or directly to the required export depot. We work with trusted transport providers and manage the logistics so you do not have to coordinate multiple companies from overseas.
From the sellerโs driveway in Australia to yours in the USA, we keep the process moving at every step.
If It Fits, It Ships!
When you import a vehicle through AusParts International, we want you to get as much value from the proccess as possible.
That is why we offer our simple โIf It Fits, It Shipsโ policy:
Any parts or memorabilia that fits completely inside your vehicle ships free without any additonal shipping charges*
This is a great opportunity to include spare parts, wheels, interior components, conversion parts, replacement panels or other difficult-to-source parts with your vehicle.
*Policy only applies to Container freight and not vehicles sent via RORO*
Vehicles Under 25 Years Old
Many assume that every vehicle less than 25 years old are completely unavailable to American buyers. The reality is more complicated.
The federal 25-year exemption applies to vehicles being imported into the United States as complete motor vehicles. A vehicle younger than 25 years old does not automatically qualify simply because it shares a platform or components with a US-market model.
However, depending on the particular vehicle, the intended project and the import structure, specialised options may be available.
Our experience is primarily with Holden VE and VF Utes and Wagons, along with Australian vehicles related to US-market models such as the:
- Pontiac GTO
- Pontiac G8
- Chevrolet Caprice PPV
- Chevrolet SS
These vehicles share significant engineering, architecture and components with models sold in the United States. The Holden-developed Zeta platform was designed for both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive applications and underpinned several Australian and American GM vehicles.
This shared engineering makes these vehicles particularly attractive for conversions, donor builds and specialist projects, but it does not create an automatic exemption from federal import requirements.

How Our Under-25 Service Works
Our under-25 service is a specialised brokerage and project-coordination service revolving around body-shells and incomplete vehicles used for conversion and finishing once in the USA.
Depending on the vehicle and chosen pathway, the vehicle may need to be dismantled in Australia and exported as individual parts through separately arranged shipments. Each consignment is documented and shipped according to its contents and must not constitute an assembled motor vehicle in-order to be federally legal.
The parts are not represented or imported as a complete, road-ready vehicle.
Because every project is different, we assess the vehicle, component groupings, shipping arrangements and available documentation before confirming whether we can assist.
Possible options may include:
- A rolling Holden Ute or Wagon shell
-
A Ute or Wagon donor vehicle or component package
- Components for a custom US-based build
- Coordination with an appropriate US donor vehicle
- Separate title assistance where available
The purchaser is responsible for ensuring that any subsequent assembly, conversion, titling, registration and road use comply with all federal, state and local requirements.
If you have been searching for a Holden Ute, Wagon or another modern Australian vehicle, contact us with the exact model, year and intended use. We can review the project and explain the available options.

Vehicles Over 25 Years Old

Vehicles built more than 25 years ago, like aย 2000 Holden VU Commodore SS Ute or the 2000 HSV Maloo R8 pictured above, are now eligible for import under theย aforementioned 25-Year Rule and weโve streamlined every aspect of the import process for you.ย
First, leverage our local connections and request inspection of any vehicle listing you find online (Marketplace, Gumtree, Carsales) where we can then verify condition in person and handle cash payments to sellers to minimise risk of scams. Once the sale is secured, weโll then move the vehicle to our Melbourne warehouse, where we prepare all necessary documentation like the Australian bill of sale, registration information, PPSR vehicle-history report, and all US import paperwork. Your vehicle is then shipped to our Indianapolis warehouse, with integrated live online tracking so you can follow your ute every step of the way. After arrival, you can collect it in Indianapolis or, for an additional fee, we can arrange onward transport to your door. Once the car has finally arrived at your door, all you will simply have to do is the supplied import paperwork to your local DMV and apply for an import title and registration (state requirements can vary slightly)
๐ก Tip: Keep in mind the 25-Year Rule is based on theย build date, not the advertised model year.
So when browsing for your next import. Make sure to confirm its age via the build plate or ID plate and be sure to note the month it was built.

Transparent Brokerage Pricing
When AusParts International oversees the entire import process from start to finish, we offer a comprehensive vehicle brokerage service designed to simplify your vehicleโs journey from Australia to the USA.
For this service, you can expect to pay:
A brokerage fee of 15% AUD on top of the vehicleโs AUD purchase price, plus fixed shipping and export fees.
Shipping and export fees vary depending on the freight partner, export method, vehicle type and final destination. Please contact us with the vehicleโs details and location for an accurate quote.
๐ก Tip:
To estimate your total cost, add 15% to the sellerโs listed AUD price of the vehicle and then convert the sum to USD (for example, by searching โ5000 AUD to USDโ on Google). Make sure not to include dollar signs (โ$โ) in your search, as this can cause the results to change.

Please note that additional fees and charges may apply due to taxes, tariffs, or unforeseen circumstances. Any such charges will be clearly communicated during the quoting process to ensure complete transparency.
